Closest cities: Bucharest, Budapest, and Belgrade

The satellite location will the beautiful medieval Timisoara town in Romania (“Little Vienna” and 2021 Cultural Capital of Europe).  There are direct flights from Madrid and Barcelona and other European cities.  Reachable by bus or train from Budapest and Belgrade, 3 hours approximately.   There are also train and air services connections between Timisoara and Wroclaw, Poland, site of the IFLA Conference.  Budget accommodation will be available at the University, or regular lodging at hotels

The Latin America and the Caribbean Section of IFLA is organizing this satellite meeting before the World Library and Information Congress in Timisoara, Romania, with the sponsorship of West University of Timisoara, Faculty of Political Sciences, Philosophy and Communication Sciences (LIS); The Romanian Library Association; and the Romanian Society for Philosophy Engineering and Technoethics.

Contributions – Sub-Themes

We welcome research papers, case studies and papers with innovative and practical perspectives on current and forward looking on the role of libraries, development and the United Nations 2030 Agenda, from the prospective information and the forthcoming society angles from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the World.

The sub-topics (not exhaustive and not restricted to LAC) are:

  1. Forthcoming information user needs
  2. Open Access as prospective information distribution venue
  3. Social networks and new communication information means of society
  4. Information role in innovation and creativity
  5. Knowledge and information repositories
  6. Media and information skills of the forthcoming society
  7. Internet governance and universal information Access
  8. Planet sustainability and information as eco-input
  9. Social, economic and political library advocacy

How to submit a proposal

Interested persons are invited to submit a proposal for a paper and presentation of 20 minutes on the topics listed above, as well as poster presentations.

The conference presentations may be given in Spanish or English (funding for simultaneous interpreting has been requested). Proposals may be sent in both languages.

The initial proposal should be not more than 500 words long (1 page), be submitted in electronic format, and be accompanied by a brief bio of the author(s), 150 words maximum.  Paper length will between 10 to 15 pages, and posters standard size will be 24″ x 36″ (60 X 90 cm).

Submissions

All proposals must be received by 15 February 2017 the extended deadline: 1 March 2017.

Evaluation process

First phase includes evaluation of abstracts, and Second Phase includes evaluation of full papers.  The evaluation will be based on content quality: Pertinence, theoretical base, methodology, or best practice originality.   Papers will be uploaded in the IFLA Library and if funding is available selected papers will be published as e-books.

All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2017 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.

Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.

All expenses for attending the satellite meeting (eg. travel, accommodation, etc.) are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA.
