Congress Venue

The Centennial Hall, is generally considered to be one of the most significant works of the 20th century architecture. Designed by eminent architect Max Berg, it was constructed in 1913 on the occasion of the international exhibition organized on the 100th anniversary of the manifesto “To My People” issued by Prussian King Frederick – Wilhelm III that called for a broad, common struggle against Napoleon. Nowadays, it is a venue where conferences, congresses, concerts, great operatic performances, trade-fairs and prestigious sporting events are held.

The Centennial Hall was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006. This crucial, internationally important architectural project was valued for improving and evolving the use of ferroconcrete in architecture. When completed, the Centennial Hall was the biggest European structure of this form and one of the turning points in reinforcing building structures with steel. Undoubtedly it is one of the most important works in 20th century architecture.

The Centennial Hall complex consists of the historical Pergola, the lush Japanese Garden, Poland’s largest multimedia fountain and the Discovery Center of the Centennial Hall. When making a visit to the Centennial Hall it is also recommended to take a walk through the picturesque landscape of the Szczytnicki Park. The Hall can bring a range of distinctive and exceptional emotions. As an historic monument and taciturn witness of the past, the Hall welcomes novelty, youth and technology. The Opening Ceremony and the Exhibition Reception will take place at the Centennial Hall on Sunday, 20 August 2017.

Exhibition

IFLA will also hold a trade exhibition at the Centennial Hall in conjunction with the World Library and Information Congress. Attendees are invited to visit the exhibition which will be open from the afternoon of Sunday, 20 August 2017 until Wednesday, 23 August 2017. Final opening hours will be included in the Congress Programme.

Hotel Reservations

All room reservations have to be made directly with the hotel by sending the official hotel booking form with the booking code “IFLA 2017” and with full credit card details directly to the hotel. Without the credit card details the booking cannot be processed. Please take note that your hotel reservation is not complete if you don not return the completed and signed form to the hotel of your choice. Please find the hotel overview and more information here. Telephone reservations will not be accepted. If you have any changes, please contact the hotel directly. If you do not have the contact details with you we will be happy to help you at the registration counters.

Alternative Accommodation

Delegates are welcome to book their own accommodation other than the accommodation service offered by the Congress Secretariat.
