Call for Papers: Open Sessions

Acquisition and Collection Development Section, Metropolitan Libraries Section and Public Libraries Section

"Check me out! Human libraries and unique circulating collections, from art to technology petting zoos"

IFLA’s Acquisition and Collection Development Section, Metropolitan Libraries Section and Public Libraries Section invite you to submit a proposal for their joint programme at the 83rd IFLA World Library and Information Congress to be held in Wrocław, Poland, 19-25 August 2017.

Session theme

The Sections intend to explore a new trend in public libraries which is not very much known in the library professional community. This trend is related to libraries with circulating collections of musical instruments, kitchen tools, seeds, e-book devices, etc. Some even manage people with an interesting experience to share (“living books”).

We are seeking 6-7 short lightning talks (presentations of 6 minutes each), addressing the organizational details of storage, circulation, policies, critical issues, and discussing if these practices are consistent with the public libraries mission and produce important outcomes.

Submission Guidelines

Full abstracts (in any of IFLA’s official languages) of up to 250 words should be submitted for review by members of the Sections.  The abstracts (and finished presentation) will be original, previously unpublished work.

Please submit abstracts as an attachment in MS Word to:

Ann Okerson

Corrado Di Tillio

Marian Morgan Bindon

The deadline for submitting a detailed abstract, including title and full author details (name, professional affiliation, postal address, email address) is 19 March 2017.

Selection of presentations is based on the abstract, and presenters will be notified whether they have been successful by 31 March 2017.

It is understood that authors of successful presentations will deliver them in person at the IFLA Congress in Wrocław, at the author’s own expense.
