Call for Papers: Satellite Meetings
Genealogy and Local History Section joint with Asia and Oceania Section and Information Technology Section
"The Challenge of Multiple Identities. Multiethnicity in Genealogy, Local History and Regional Memory - Challenges and Opportunities for Libraries and Other Memory Institutions"
16-17 August 2017
Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, Vilnius, Lithuania
We would like to invite presenters from a wide range of countries to discuss what they have learnt from projects with a multi-ethnic component.
The main session welcomes papers that discuss:
- saving and promoting historical and cultural memories
- supporting contacts and understanding between different local and regional communities
- the role of libraries, museums and archives in participatory projects based on multi-ethnic and multi-generational collaboration
Participants are encouraged to discuss both successes and failures in their papers.
We encourage evidence based practice and invite presentations and analysis of projects which can be of practical value to others. Submissions in other formats than academic papers (such as reports, essays) are welcome.
The deadline for submitting a detailed summary (up to 250 words) and full author details is 18 March 2017. Proposals should be submitted using the following web address.
If this web site is unavailable, please contact the convener:
Cherie Bush directly
The full papers will be published on the IFLA web site. We encourage authors to submit their papers to relevant professional journals after the conference.
To encourage interaction and debate at the session we will be using a lightning talk model. There will be a maximum of ten presentations, each allowed seven minutes.
Presentations should focus on a few central ideas or theses. Presentations with visual slides are recommended. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PechaKucha for inspiration.
The presentations will be followed by discussions at small tables, together with the individual presenters. Presenters will circulate between tables, spending about fifteen minutes at each.
The session will be conducted in English. The papers may be written in English, Spanish, French or Russian. The proposals (abstracts), the oral presentations and the following discussions should be in English, however.
The author(s) should indicate his/her personal full contact details and include a brief biographical note with the proposal.
Both summaries and full papers should be submitted online. Fax or post should be used only as a last resort.
Papers should not be longer than 5000 words (about 20 pages double-spaced).
