Conference Focus

Knowledge Management is constantly evolving and now encompasses several aspects, business intelligence, analytics and the similar not previously identified with KM. Selected papers will show a variety of ways that information agencies are using to incorporate some of the emerging concepts into their KM work. The new directions of KM will be mixed with the everlasting important aspects of KM such as knowledge sharing. Part of the conference will be devoted to conversations exploring future trends in KM.

Some examples of possible topics:

  • Trends in KM and data analytics
  • Successes and failures of KM
  • Future of KM as an academic discipline and applications of KM in academic environments
  • The importance of knowledge sharing in organizations
  • The effects of corporate culture on creating the right environment for effective knowledge sharing
  • The exit interview to preserve the intellectual capital
  • Content, collaboration and communication: the 3Cs of KM
  • The role of knowledge managers in the new KM environment
  • Competencies and skills of knowledge providers and information professionals
  • Teaching, coaching and mentoring knowledge workers
  • Intellectual property and copyright in the creation and re-usage of knowledge in organizations
  • Innovation and creativity in knowledge management
  • The new role of libraries and information / knowledge management centers in the new knowledge age

Librarians, information professionals, knowledge managers, knowledge providers, researchers, analysts and others interested in knowledge management are invited to submit paper proposals on topics pertaining to KM, its prospects and the central theme of the IFLA WLIC conference “Libraries, solidarity, society.”

The KM Section welcomes case studies and theoretical papers from different contexts (e.g., different types of libraries, information and knowledge organizations, cultural institutions, and public and private sector institutions).

Submissions and selection process

If you are interested in submitting a paper proposal, please provide the following in English:

  • Name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s)/presenter(s)
  • Proposed title of the paper
  • Proposed abstract of the paper (no more than 500 words)
  • Brief biographical information of all author(s)/presenter(s)
  • Contact information, including email, of all author(s)/presenter(s)

Submissions

All proposals must be received by 1 February 28 February 2017.

All proposals will be reviewed by the members of the IFLA KM Satellite Conference Organizing Committee. Selection will be based on proposal content and fit to the conference theme. Proposal authors will be notified via email by 15 March 2017.

Authors should submit proposals only if they are able to attend the Satellite Conference. At least one author for each accepted paper MUST attend the Satellite Conference presentation. This requirement ensures that the author(s) of the papers and attendees of the Satellite Conference have the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussion with colleagues about the presentations and other KM topics, leading to a more robust professional experience.

The deadline for final papers is 1 June 2017. Papers should be original work written in English, not published elsewhere, and should be no longer than 15 double-spaced pages using a standard 12-point font. Authors will be required to present their papers at the IFLA KM Satellite Conference. Presentations should last about 15-20 minutes and time will be allotted afterwards for questions and discussion. Presentations should be engaging, interactive, and designed to elicit thoughtful discussion from the audience. Use of PowerPoint or other visual program is encouraged for the benefit of the entire audience. The official language of the Satellite Conference is English.

All expenses are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA or the IFLA KM Section. The Satellite Conference is free of charge, but registration is still required. Lunch and possibly other refreshments on the day of the Satellite Conference will be provided.

All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2017 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.

Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.
