The IFLA Religions: Libraries and Dialogue Special Interest Group  invite interested professionals to submit proposals for the open session to be held during IFLA WLIC in Wroclaw, Poland, from 19-25 August 2017.

In keeping with the thematic focus of the next World Library Information Congress, “Libraries, Solidarity, Society”, the IFLA SIG propose a session. It will be organised on the theme: “Interreligious dialogue as Library Initiatives demonstrating societal solidarity”.

Our aim is to show that the initiatives of libraries in the field of the interreligious dialogue can contribute to the building of a society by fostering solidarity.

These initiatives organised by librarians can be meetings for example or bibliographic tools or technical tools, fostering cultural understanding in the interreligious field.

Meetings

• Conference / Round tables
  • Does your library organise conferences on interreligious dialogue? Under which circumstances?
  • What sort of public is concerned? Have you set-up special collaboration to publicize such events?
  • What feedback have you received concerning these initiatives?
• Study days
  • Has your library organised colloquiums or study days concerning religious questions?
  • What public is affected? Have you set up special collaborations showing such events?
  • What kind of feedback have you had about this initiative?
  • Were there publications of proceedings?
• Interviews
  • Does your library take part in showcasing authors’ interviews?
  • What kind of feedbacks have you had concerning these initiatives?
• “Over a cup of coffee”
  • Does your library initiate workshops on the interreligious theme?
  • With what resources, what partners?
  • For or with what public?
• “Outside the walls”
  • In what kind of place?
  • What kind of activities have you proposed to approach the intercultural or interreligious field?
  • In case of institutional difficulties or difficulties of means, what solution have you found to manage to organise the meeting in spite of difficulties?
    What strategies have you set up to by-pass the obstacles? What worked? What failed?
• Bibliographic tools
  Has your library set up :
  • Bibliographic tools over interreligious dialogue such as tools aiming at better discovery of one or several religions?
  • Are there religions implanted in your geographical area?
  • What form have these tools taken? What use is made of them? What public is interested?
    What do you think of the relevance of these tools?
• Technical tools
  • Database
    Have you developed a database referring to one or several religions able to serve as tool to other libraries?
    What are the users’ feedback on these products?
  • Semantic web
    Have you developed an initiative to feed the semantic web with religious subjects?
    According to what modalities?
  • Digital usage
    Is your library involved in digital projects in favour of the spreading, the sharing or the enhancement of religious knowledge?

All the colleagues and professional who wish to share their experiences in the various aspects outlined above are invited to send a proposal by 28 February 2017.

The session will have a time slot of two hours for lively discussions and sharing of information.

Important Dates/Deadlines

28 February 2017:	Submission of abstracts (with 200-words),
7 March 2017 :	Acknowledgement of receipt, with provisional acceptance/rejection,
14 March 2017 :	Submission of four page extended outline of paper,
25 March 2017 :	Notification of acceptance,
8 May 2017 :	Submission of completed draft paper,
26 June 2017 :	Submission of final paper,
17 July 2017 :	Submission of Conference Presentation PowerPoint.

Submissions

All proposals must be received by 28 February 2017.

Please note

At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program in Wrocław, Poland. Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.

All papers that are presented at the WLIC 2017 will be made available online via the IFLA Library under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.

Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
