Call for Papers: Open Sessions

Serials and Other Continuing Resources Section

Theme:

"Altmetrics: It’s time to take action"

[Deadline extended to: 6 March 2017]

The Serials and Other Continuing Resources Section (SOCRS) invites colleagues to submit proposals for its two-hour open session at the IFLA Congress in Wroclaw on the theme “Altmetrics: It’s time to take action.”

Altmetrics measure attention to research outputs in non-traditional sources and are indicators of research impact. They provide us with a more complete understanding of how research is being received and used within a short time after publication and are complementary to traditional citation metrics. There are many uses for altmetrics including adding value to institutional repositories, showcasing outputs and achievements, demonstrating impacts, aiding in discovery, demonstrating value and supporting causes. It is time for libraries to take action and include support for altmetrics as well as traditional metrics in their service offerings. This programme will examine how altmetrics are used in libraries and why they are important when working with scholarly communication, serials and other continuing resources issues. We will examine the present and future potential impacts and uses of altmetrics and other metrics.

We invite papers that address any or several of the following topics:

  • Altmetrics and their relationship to other metrics
  • Metrics projects and implementation in libraries
  • Altmetrics and serials and other continuing resources
  • The meaning of metrics
  • Metrics and repositories
  • The uses of metrics
  • Altmetrics standards and best practices
  • Metrics for discovery
  • Libraries supporting metrics uses
